IMO, You and I judge based on what we can see, but our vision is limited.
We come to conclusions based on appearances, but the Lord searches the heart looking for: humility, his Words, sin, love for Him, love for people, obedience that leads to holiness only possible thru the intervention of the Spirit.
Jesus said, “No one is good—except God alone” (Luke 18:19).
Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
So, I believe God searches the heart to find the “why” behind our thoughts and choices judging our intentions. If our intentions honor Him, God encourages us to continue. If we become misguided, because of his love, God will correct us. So, on our own we are not and cannot become ‘righteous’ without God acting on each of us.
