Countries don't have friends, countries have interests. And since countries consist of many different groups, all of whom seek power, it's not really a good idea to even count on another country's putative interests.
You’re right. It’s not a question of friends and enemies but of interests. AMLO got along with Trump because Trump made it in Mexico’s interest to do so. Now Biden demands nothing from Mexico and AMLO likes it. What national leader wouldn’t like it when his neighbor is such a pushover.
