My temple is joining a climate change organization. How do I best register my disagreement with this? It seems to be partnered with the UN. My hunch is it’s about the offsets (💸💸💸)
Getting to Zero Emissions
We have identified four steps, through which an organization can ultimately achieve net-zero GHG emissions. They are:
Source Clean Electricity: Purchase clean electricity from the grid, or produce your own with solar. Go Electric: Make a plan that documents all non-electric appliances (e.g. gas furnaces and boilers) and when they will expire. Start planning now for how to replace them with electric versions. Reduce Emissions: Make energy efficiency retrofits; adjust food and travel practices; and manage natural resources to sequester carbon through nature-based solutions. Offset Emissions That Can’t Be Reduced: Some GHG emissions are unavoidable. For those that cannot be eliminated, purchase vetted carbon offsets.
Tell them you can abide hypocrisy, and you can’t join with them unless everybody in the organization gets rid of their IC automobiles, any use of natural gas (including heating the temple itself), any use of air conditioning, and all use of plastics.
Make that “can’t abide” !!!!
What kind of temple is this!?
It changes 4 times a year, every year. It has since the creation. The seasons are truly a gift from God.
Yep.
