Road users are being urged to take care following overnight snowfalls in many areas, with low temperatures leading to icy conditions.
Met Éireann meteorologist Gerry Murphy said any showers this morning could be of sleet and snow, although as the day goes on showers will be predominantly of rain and sleet.
Two Status Yellow warnings for snow and ice remain in place for 22 counties until 9 am.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Mr. Murphy said it will be quite cold again tonight and temperatures will drop down as low as –4°C in places, with rain and sleet developing in west Munster, and there will be some fog as well. “So, we’re still in this cold snap really.”
The rest of the week will be very cold, with some dense fog in places with rain gradually making its way in by Friday morning and then there will be milder air for the weekend, he said. …

The Irish are funny... -4 celsius is a cold snap... That’s 24.8 in fahrenheit.
The coldest temperature ever recorded in Ireland... -19 celsius. That’s -2.2 in fahrenheit... They don’t know how good they have it.

I remember at work years ago, they handed out little pamphlets with safe winter driving tips. It told us to "stay spaced out in traffic". So I did.
