Astrophysicist Natalie Gosnell says field is riddled with ‘white supremacy’

A Colorado astrophysicist who says the field is paralyzed by “systemic racism and white supremacy” and “very violent and hyper-masculine” terminology — such as “vampire star” or “cannibal star” — is speaking out about combating these issues in the classroom and beyond.
“As an astrophysicist, I’m a product of institutions that are steeped in systemic racism and white supremacy,” Natalie Gosnell, PhD, an assistant professor of physics at Colorado College, said in an interview published in the school’s newspaper this month.
Gosnell, who holds a doctorate in astronomy from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and is a recipient of the prestigious Cottrell Scholar Award, argued that “tenets of white supremacy” like “individualism and exceptionalism and perfectionism” shape everything from the direction of physics research to the language used by scientists.

I too have worked with a few physiatrists, PhD types. From my acquaintances, they have ranged from space cadets to very typical, ordinary people. Fortunately, I never crossed paths with anyone with this woman's apparent grievance mentality. What a waste.

She’s an assistant professor at a minor college. Can’t make much of a contribution ib her field, so trying to get attention this way. She’ll be in retail or fast food shortly.

Astro Physics is a tough major. My son is one. One should strive to graduate the best and brightest. Some of the best are Chinese, Japanese and Indian. There are some that are black, but few.
I went to Pharmacy School. We had a few blacks in class. They were admitted to the School of Pharmacy on merit and not their race. That is the way it is supposed to work.
So what will happen to the Seven Sisters consternation? ( I did that for the unlitereates hear.)
