It happened to me with my first room mate when I moved to NH.
Stiffed me for the phone bill.
He had a long distance girlfriend. Spent an hour each night on the phone.

He moved out after three months. Left me with the bill.

I once had a Tennant six months behind on the rent. I reached out to a lawyer friend. He told me to pay them $1500 to leave. I went ballistic with rage. He told me it would be cheaper to pay them $1500 to get out than to continue with courts which would resist eviction for what could be a year.

I learned my lesson. They loaded up and demanded their $1500.
