It’s a waste of time if one demonstrates their lack of knowledge like this quote from the article. VARES doesn’t establish causes.

Yup.

They don't care very much about letters from constituents. If you do get a response, it is from an unpaid intern who selects a form letter from a collection of different topics. And the intern will add your e-mail address to their mailing list for the newsletter.

The interns may skim your letter to see if you are requesting assistance in a dispute with a federal agency. Some congressmen do like to show off their clout by intervening in a few such cases.

Other than that, a letter to your congressman has no real effect.

People who can assemble six figure campaign donations will get a hearing. Seven figure campaign donations will get lobbyists to write legislation favorable to the donors.
