Diesel engine powering a generator which then drives electric traction motors. Diesel electric locomotives are an example.
How about driver time? Filling up a gas tank compared to waiting on the truck to get recharged.

And it is highly efficient and greatly multiplies torque. A much smaller diesel engine can do the same work as a large diesel engine when in this configuration.
We should have done it with cars and trucks 80 years ago. That is about how long we have had the technology.
I still think that is the answer. I’ve been pushing this since the late 70’s. I’m guessing there is some problem that I am not privy to. But it seems to me that a small gas- or diesel-powered, super-efficient, computer-controlled ICE running when necessary to recharge a smaller battery pack would be a workable solution.

Everything about EVs is dependent on fossil fuel.
Locomotives take 1000s of gallons of diesel. The whole argument is moot
