It is the leadership of the National Archives that has deteriorated badly over the past 10-15 years. Arrogance and possible political bias, plus gross incompetence, are the main reasons.
The individual archivists and specialists have been great professionals and the “stack pullers” of documents were the best. Unfortunately they were too often ignored by the Archives leadership.
There are a lot of missing or misplaced boxes/documents in an overworked, often poorly led institution. Believe me, I know from decades of experience working with various government agencies and departments.
You might call me one of the “kings” of Preservation Orders that prevented the Archives/Federal Records Center from destroying perhaps more than a million pages of documents of great historical and legal value. They were worth up to or more, possibly One Billion dollars, in costs to the American taxpayer and were very valuable to historians, educators/students and the news media.
Some reported intelligence documents were not found despite having been seen by people with very high security clearances, while others were sealed by a combination of Communists/liberal dupes, for years or more so that communists in Congress wouldn’t’be exposed: Abzug, Conyers Jr., Crockett Jr., perhaps Don Edwards, Charles Porter, Marcantonio, etc.
This is only part of the story
RAIN DOWN the SUBPOENAS and quit just TALKING about it!! DO IT!! ACT!
