My sister teaches at an inner city Baltimore magnet school. It’s a boarding school Sunday night through Thursday night, then the kids go back home Friday and Saturday nights. The kids must lead disciplined, structured, orderly, and polite lives (with males present) while boarding at the school during the week. But, when they return to their ghetto homes for the weekend, they have to again revert to the tough ghetto rat to survive. When the kids come back to school, they have two days of fresh ghetto culture imbued in them, so they are unruly, rude ghetto brats until about Tuesday.
Imagine how tough that would be getting whipsawed between two cultures like that!
I can see going crazy because of it. :(
