I am not tipping for take out, and don’t care whether they like it or not. That is ridiculous. I have to leave my house to go get it and I am supposed to tip? For what? If I go in and have a sit down meal, I tip, but I am not tipping for ordering and picking up food. What’s next? Tipping the cashier at Kroger? If a person can’t make enough money working in food service, then get an education and a better job. I did.
Yep. How do you define whom should get a tip or not? I don’t get a tip in my work. Why not? If I’m encouraging prompt service for a tailored product (e.g. a meal, a drink at the bar, ...), also expecting you to get the custom order correct and not bring something different, then fine. These people are often running their a** off.
Making me a sandwich when I’m just next in line doesn’t count. Making me a pizza I’m picking up doesn’t count. None of these people are running their a** off or doing anything special only for me. They’re usually temporary entry level jobs that are dropped once somebody has more knowledge and experience. That is what they’re for. Making me a coffee, when I’ve waiting in line and you’re not running your a** off doesn’t count. I might make an exception if they are.
...but nobody seems to be able to define a clear rule. Wait staff don’t get paid minimum wage, this is why it is a traditional environment for tipping.
