Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Wednesday that the man who shot and killed 13-year-old Karon Blake on Saturday morning is a government employee.
The shooting happened at around 4 a.m. on Quincy Street, when a homeowner went outside after hearing noises and observed 'someone that appeared to be tampering with vehicles,' according to police.
The homeowner opened fire with a registered firearm after a brief interaction with the teenager, who later died from his injuries at a local hospital. The man phoned 911 after shooting Blake and was performing CPR on the boy when police arrived, Chief Robert Contee III of the Metropolitan Police Department said.
Contee has declined to identify the government employee, but said on Tuesday that he is a Black man with a concealed carry permit.
Mayor Bowser said on Wednesday that the government employee does not work in a public safety role and has been placed on administrative leave while police investigate the shooting.
Now, the local community is demanding the homeowner's identity be released and that he be charged with murder.
D.C. Police have said they are talking to the US Attorney's Office to decide if charges should be filed. Identities are typically not released until that point.
Contee said it was not unusual in the US capital for police not to release the name of a crime suspect before an arrest warrant has been secured, and to not arrest someone immediately.
'There's been too much misinformation swirling around this incident. Too many people have made assumptions about this case, and it is unfair to the grieving family,' Contee said on Tuesday.
'People are making allegations centered around race, and that is wrong.'

Yes they need to start holding parents responsible for their out of control kids. You can’t have young teens running around loose at all hours of the night.
damn, why you gonna jail Dawg??? 8^)
He was just getting an early start on school.
That’s a relief. At least it wasn’t a suburban cracker from Tennessee.
I think that he was walking the 20 miles (one way, in the snow) to work the morning shift before he went to classes at Howard University.
Wow, they sure buried that deep into the story didn't they? 15 paragraphs into the article! Should have been in the first paragraph.
Oh. My. That's very different! Never mind!
Smith & Wesson has deeper pockets.
>>I’ll be his daddy is in jail
Can’t confirm, but read elsewhere his father was gunned down on the streets of DC a while back - probably a gang-banger or drug dealer.
Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Also can’t confirm, but rumour is the shooter is a parks department employee, named on twitter:

More black on black crime, yawn says the US Media.
Liberal black mayor in a quandry because black thug teens shooter is a black man, public racial lynching no longer a mayoral option here
You are quite possibly correct. It is also very likely that no one has any idea who the baby daddy is.
Now that they know it was a black shooter, this will disappear.
with a DC issued CCW!
>>with a DC issued CCW!
Which is the first cue that it was a govt. employee - probably one of the few in DC that can get one.

Bet the residents are all pretty disappointed too ... they were all pretty sure that new flat screen TV’s would be available for free any day now.
“Betcha he’s being raised by grandma..”
Who herself is a whopping 38 years old.
Those Hoochie Mamas start pumping the pups out young!
Yup

Nee Nee says that a citizen defending himself with a firearm against violent crime (like carjacking, Nee Nee says) is no way to decrease crime. Unfortunately, it seems to be the only way to decrease crime today. Certainly this little angel will not commit any more crimes.
And speaking of the little angel, isn’t he flashing a gang sign in one of those photos?
