I suck at it too I finally gave up and bought this. Worth the money. Changed my knife sharpening life.

Wow! My grandfather knew and used such a person. He sharpened items like knives, shovels, axes, etc, and the sharpened items were kept in buckets of sand saturated with used oil. Good memory for some reason.

Lots of medical/dental tools get professionally resharpened, so there are people who do it. Ask a dentist, especially an older independent one.
