Yes, people have made that claim. Even the tinfoil guy that I am, I say it (Covid-19⁽⁸⁴⁾) is NOT the Mark of the Beast. It's a dry run; even if accidental.

The REAL Mark of the Beast will not take place until the abomination that causes desolation - i.e., the political false "messiah" will sit in a rebuilt temple of God in Jerusalem (yes it will be built - how, dunno) - he will declare himself to be "god" - he will have and exercise all the power and authority of the Dragon - Satan, the (temporary) god of this world (2nd Corinthians 4:3-4).

Then shall be Great Tribulation such as never was upon the Earth. (verses to follow)

Bear in mind my knowledge of scripture is quite limited, but from what I understand the mark isn’t something that will be imposed, that people will take it willingly.
