Anyone with a hearing impairment (I have one) can tell you what a cluster f@$k wearing masks were during COVID. You don’t realize how much communication is visual & how many gaps your brain fills in for you.
Count me +1 to that! Even with my hearing aids, it’s difficult…

I realized during that mask wearing time that I never looked at anyone’s head or the exposed part of their face.
I also thought that the masks made people ugly.

Exactly. Even people without hearing impairments rely on visual clues as part of communication. My ENT had two hearing aids & when he would come into the examination room, he would always ask if it was ok to take off his mask to foster better communication.
