The mining and manufacturing of EVs causes a lot more upfront CO2 emissions for the EV that may NEVEE be eliminated by driving the EV. Volvo did a study of two identical C40 vehicles -- ICE vs. EV -- to determine the CO2 emissions break even mileage.
Their estimate was the EV would have to be driven many miles to eliminate the initial (70%) disadvantage of extra CO2 emissions for mining and manufacturing EVs. That Life Cycle Assessment (carbon footprint) estimate was based on current sources of EU electricity in 2021.

Jun 29, 2021 — University of Liege researcher Damien Ernst said in 2019 that the typical EV would have to travel nearly 700,000 km before it emitted less CO2 ... to overcome the upfront disadvantage
You will not find many related HONEST articles with a search at Google -- they don't want you to know the truth. Just the usual EV cheerleading, weinroth style.
If we let the market do its thing, by 2040 or so, electric cars will be great, ICE engine cars will become a niche market.
The politicians, however, want to do all of that stuff now, and the rush to force things is going to ensure that everything is going to be a disaster.
Most of the public knows how much of a disaster this is going to be, which is why the car market is as screwed up as it is, and why it will stay that way for years.
EV has no future.
