Aurora Police Department aiming for 30% female force by 2030

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) – Inside the Aurora Public Safety Training Center, a small group gathered Saturday to learn about policing.
But this group looked a bit different than the majority of Colorado police officers because all of them were women.
The Women’s Informational Academy is just one step toward an ambitious goal for the department, which hopes to have women make up 30% of its police force by 2030.
“It’s really empowering,” said Marian Baena, a future recruit for the department.
Baena currently works in a restaurant but is planning to try and become an Aurora police officer.
“I was like what am I doing here, making money serving food when I could be doing something more purposeful or impactful to the community,” Baena said.
Currently, the department has 76 female officers, making up less than 11% of the 700 sworn officers on staff.
Nationwide, the average isn’t much higher, sitting at around 12%.
Studies have shown female officers use force less often and less excessively. They’re also involved in fewer lawsuits.
“Women are very good communicators,” Officer Mary Fernandez said. “We are very good problem solvers. We have this natural ability to calm people, especially our male counterparts. So, there’s just so many studies that show having women is beneficial.”
Fernandez helped lead the class on Saturday, hoping to inspire other women to pursue a career in law enforcement.
“They’re all here for the same reason,” she said. “They all have that calling.”

I recall a study from years ago that claimed that use of force incidents went up with the % of women on the force. The departments with the lowest use of force incidents were those with higher % of black males on the job. Don’t know if that’s true but that’s what my hazy memory brings up. It was supposedly all about compliance, people didn’t comply with women officers but did for black male officers. Of course it’s a moot point if the police don’t bother to enforce compliance over anything because they know no one will get prosecuted or don’t want to risk the chance of becoming infamous for something that goes down in a split second...

That works sometimes—but when the perp with outstanding warrants decides fighting and/or flight is their choice then male cops have to come in to clean up the mess.
Ever watch women police officers on “Cops” or “On Patrol”? As a woman, I laugh every time I see a woman police officer wrangle with a perp. Thank heavens for the male police officers who come in and rescue her. Women do not have the physical capacity that men have.
Those shows are great “reality checks”.
Most of the female cops do not “run to danger”—they tend to stand back and let the men do the heavy lifting.
It is hilarious when they cuff the unruly suspect—after four burly male cops are sitting on top of him!

Too funny. Having watched an episode of COPS recently, I thought the show must have gone woke on us. In the episode the Cops had to take a very large black guy, high on meth and whatever else, into custody. There six or seven officers, five men and two women. Of course it was the two female cops trying to control the belligerent perp after he was cuffed while the three, also very large white male Cops walked behind.
In MHO, it was extremely dangerous, unnecessary and all for show . . .
This will be something to observe.

I’ve heard the same. Studies — and anecdotes — show female officers are quicker to resort to deadly force (bang bang) than their male colleagues. Their smaller size and weaker physique leads to them “perceiving life-threatening danger” before a larger, stronger male officer feels himself in mortal danger.
And it will be achieved with no concern for quality or impact on public safety.
Right, and the protective urge of other male officers towards female officers.

Female cops are generally useless when it comes time to make an arrest of a non-compliant subject.
I remember when the intelligence tests were labeled discriminatory, and then the requirement to be large men was labeled as discriminatory, and then the requirement to be male was labeled as discriminatory.
Cops were tough and often brutal with their billy clubs, but at least they didn’t approach a scene and gun down any possible threats before finding out what the situation was.
If they hired Art, they suck as a police department - PERIOD!

At cocktail parties, it was always fun to start a conversation with liberals about women bringing peace, calm, and non-violence to the police because of their natural nature.
The fun part was after that conversation died down, and then you switched to women in the military and the enthusiastic brutal competitiveness in killing and destroying required in the nature of soldiers and Marines.
Is “Gender Affirming Health Care” the pathway to a better job???
hahaha....yeah, that’s the thing with liberals, they’ll argue opposite sides of the same coin depending on the starting point - complete hypocrisy.

“you must allow illegal workers for farms, because they’ll work for less, otherwise the farms will go out of business”
Which is it? They argue for both, depending on which one they’re talking about, even though they can’t both be true.
Will they have to be lesbians named Aurora?
There are plenty of them. The school system is another.
The problem is getting men to think with the big head long enough to do anything about it.
Expecting Aurora’s criminal population to exploded in the future as they figure out they can get away from female cops either by punching them or out running them.
