Anyone here gardening in the piedmont region of North Carolina, near Raleigh?

I farmed and gardened in the north (Central Pennsylvania)for many years.

The mild winters and hot summers are throwing me a curve ball. It appears that most early spring plants in the north, I can plant in January here. Things grow all winter and die off in the hot summer.

It’s been crazy..

I’m outside of Auburn, Alabama. Piedmont for sure, but maybe a tad South climate wise.

I’m currently preparing my garden beds. In a few weeks, say end of third week of January, I’ll plant Irish potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes, and walking onions. First week of February, I plant spinach, lettuce, and carrots seeds outside.

By third week of February, I transplant out cabbage and kale seedlings.

I’ve had frost on all the above only a few times, without problems. Irish potatoes, if they’ve sprouted early, and there’s a frost, will just die back and resprout without problems.

Often the hardest season for gardening here is hot, humid midsummer, not winter.

Good luck!
