Another esteemed person....
Albert Einstein, recruited directly from Europe, accepted a faculty position at Princeton in August, 1932. Einstein had suggested a salary of $3,000. The university didn’t want other scholars being paid more than Einstein, and increased the salary to $10,000.
And these....
Al Gore, former Vice-President and environmental activist, joined the faculty of Middle Tennessee State University in January 2001, and he holds similar teaching appointments at Columbia University, New York, and Fisk University, Nashville. At MTSU, he is a visiting professor under the auspices of the John Seigenthaler Chair of Excellence in First Amendment Studies.
Bill Ayers
College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago
Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar. In the 1960s Ayers was arrested several times. He was a leader of Weatherman, also known as Weathermen and later the Weather Underground Organization, an American radical left wing militant organization that carried out a series of domestic terrorism activities from 1969 through the 1970s which included bombings, jailbreaks, and riots.
In an interview he gave to Dinitia Smith for The New York Times on the occasion of the memoir’s publication on September 11, 2001. The reporter quoted him as saying “I don’t regret setting bombs” and “I feel we didn’t do enough”, and, when asked if he would “do it all again”, as responding “I don’t want to discount the possibility.”
