Well, I’m going to pass along what a very conservative congressman told me yesterday:

McCarthy gave in on EVERY rules change the holdouts wanted, including the vacate rule; he agreed to every single committee assignment and chairman they desired. “At this point he gave them every thing they wanted. They cannot name one single thing any more.”

BTW, “broken promises,” chair appointments and committee appointments are done deals. Can’t be undone. And these are extremely powerful positions. Even Andy Biggs told me a few months ago those were as important as the Speaker.

Needs to be in writing. I don't trust McCarthy (or most politicians for that matter) as far as I can spit.

McCarthy gave in on EVERY rules change the holdouts wanted, including the vacate rule; he agreed to every single committee assignment and chairman they desired. “At this point he gave them every thing they wanted. They cannot name one single thing any more.”

Not according to Bob Goode:

Some of the changes he identified were bills working through their committees in correct order, allowing members to make amendments to bills on the House floor -- which hasn’t happened in years -- and requiring “a majority of the majority” (a majority of members of the majority party must support legislation). Good and his fellow Conservatives are also promoting single-issue legislation and an end to earmarks, which is part of what citizens oppose, he noted.

They also want to set a minimum time which legislation must be on the floor of the House before it can come to a vote. He indicated at least three to five days before a piece of legislation comes up for a vote, rather than lengthy and complicated bills being rushed through the House in a matter of hours, as has been happening the last couple of years.

Some of these have been addressed and agreed to by McCarthy, not all of them.

Don't play into their hands or allow yourself to be manipulated into the narrative that this is just a group of people grandstanding.
