I'd be fine with the arrangement if I saw may neighbour do this, as long as the kids are flourishing.
I’d characterize this arrangement as “detached bedrooms”.
My first criticism to this is how many heating/cooling units you need to support that.
One of the guys from our science team was talking about doing this. He and his son live in an apartment now, so it’s a little unlikely, but I don’t see anything wrong with the idea.
This is blither, of course. It depends on the design and usage. Four tiny houses with a total of, say, 1,000 sq ft would not necessarily be any more "environmentally friendly" than one house of 1,000 sq ft. They would use more of some building products, such as exterior siding and kitchen/bathroom fixture, and less of others.
When the kids leave, they can take their tiny home with them.
"If the tiny house is rocking, don't come a'knockin'"
From the article, 4 people in 6 houses? Why?
No way ...how long until one morning in a fog of just waking up and trying to negotiate the LADDER to run to the john after crawling over your better half you miss a rung hit your head on the side of the fridge and end up in a fetal position on the floor bruised and battered urinating on yourself ? All for the environment? Also, where do you keep all of your clothes and shoes and all the things that just accumulate over time? Not realistic and way to compact for long term sustainability. We live in a three bedroom with one room for just my computer and tools and I still do not have enough room....but it is perfect as far as enough room for her and my space topped off with a king size bed.
Just dropped by to say that if you name your son Brody you’re retarded
They were called sheds when I grew up.
Just had a 600sqft home bout 4 miles from me on 1acre lot sold for $267,000.00.
That would be a hunting or fishing camp to most.
The smaller units have no bathrooms. So, in the winter you have to bundle up to go to the big house to go.
Sounds easy right?
Now imagine that with a stomach flu.
....their six tiny homes create a unique living situation...
They broke down a 2,500 sq foot house into six distinct dwellings
I wonder what they call their "village."
Munchkintown?
Regards,
The farm I grew up on had a depression in a side hill where the original sod-roofed tiny house had been.
This is more wasteful to build and maintain than a standard house!
Very cool. The pursuit of happiness is alive and well.
Worked out pretty well really, we had privacy and could have friends over any time of day or night without disturbing everybody else in the house but were still close enough to go back home if we needed to do laundry or anything.
This could be almost as effectively done in a regular-size house, with defined spaces. The tiny house approach duplicates bathrooms, kitchens, and HVAC.
Some ham radio operators dream of a small separate building for their stations, but going out to The Radio Shack in inclement weather, and the need for separate HVAC usually doesn’t work out well. Electronic gear hates cold or damp-cold conditions, and deteriorates faster.
