Doug Dalgleish and I wrote the book on Trident (”Trident’) in 1984. Navy couldn’t figure out where we got all the info (all public sourced.) And yes, that was what we heard then.

The pentagon debriefed Tom Clancy during his book writing too I understand. If you picked up Jane’s Fighting Ships I could sit on the boat and read classified info about the ship while underway underwater. What the Brass Hats thought was secret wasn’t so secret. My days are were before towed array was installed on my boomer. My 1st patrol we got run over by a Russian Fast attack doing a crazy Ivan out of our baffles. We missed metal to metal contact by a hair and lost a floating wire (supposedly secret). LOOK magazine ran a picture of a seagull riding on one going by a fishing boat. The boat went by underwater. I had 3 Captains while on the 640, all Jacks, not a bad poker hand. Be Safe. 🙂
