If you're trying spanish, suggest watching spanish tv. I've found it's pretty easy to learn vocabulary and reading spanish, but hearing and speaking at a fluent level requires immersion.

you have to train your ear and brain to the language as the speed of normal conversation.

Exactly. I learned fluent Spanish 50 years ago when living in Nicaragua by watching the Telenovelas (Soap Operas) on TV.

I already know some Spanish, but was looking to learn Arabic.
Mainly to exercise my brain, but also business opportunities.
Afterwards, I would again work on Spanish. I took 3 years of Spanish and know first generation Americans that are fluent speakers.

This is true. It is best way.

My DH lived in France for 2 years and is fluent.

I took conversational French privately in HS. When I visited Paris, I could barely understand as they spoke so quickly...and my response time was so slow.

Yep, foreign tv. I watch a lot of French and German shows on MHZ Choice, all of which have English subtitles. I watch on my laptop and keep additional windows open with google translate and English-French / English-German dictionaries.

Huge added benefit — virtually no Woke shite in the European shows. Women are still women (and gorgeous) and men are still men.
