The Flightdeck Crewman was saved because a strap on his vest got caught on the intake and kept him from being ingested by the fan blade.
The airflow into a fully operational jet engine is beyond hurricane speed - you will not win that fight.
The one I was referring to happened back in the Seventies, and apparently the guy went all the way in and broke his neck on the spinner cone. I remember seeing him get evacuated off the ship on a stretcher.
On another ship (USS America, I think) a guy walked into an E-2 prop back around 1978 in the Med. I heard that was awful.
It can be a dangerous place even if you do have your head on on a swivel.
