Tupac Shakur is known by some as having been a criminal rapper who was murdered in 1996, at age 25, in what reportedly was gangland retaliation. But now is a “literary” figure whose work is taught in school.

Tupac is replacing American poets such as Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Emily Post, and e.e. cummings.
“For the record, here’s Shakur’s rose poem:
Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature’s laws wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.”
Depends upon orientation. Is the teach showing this rap crap as an example of bad crappola? Basically, you can make loads of dosh doing this, but no one will respect you — unless you are willing to murder someone to show how badass you are.
Apparently a lot of people are thrilled that this is being taught, you can be sure the education system is. I can see high school textbooks adding works of Tupac for study:
“When MSN.com posted the Newsweek piece, many reactions were similar. “One of the best lyricists/poets of our time,” wrote respondent Joe Cramer, in what was the top-rated comment.”
I got "got" by auto-correct - or my own rushed comment.
Kids these days could use a strong dose of Emily Post b/c manners are so terrible - but in this case I meant Emily Dickenson, not Post.
Godless teachers don’t look towards anything that transcends man. They have no bar for excellence.
Had Frost been a "city person", this poem might have been something he would write.
Whatever his name was Tupac the highly educated polished Spanish-Inca aristocrat and gentleman would have executed this poseur on the spot or sent his ass to his labor gangs of slaves building roads and fortifications before turning back to his half Spanish and renegade Spanish soldiers to plan the next offensive to defeat the Vice Roy’s army approaching from the west. The real Tupac is one of history’s fascinating figures like Waldenstine and really worth study instead of this minor criminal. All this woke crap focusing on marginal fifth rate figures instead of studying of some of history’s real bad boys, Waldenstine, Tupac, the Taiping Hung and his great enemy Tseng Kuo-Fan, or Jan Ziska, or Sir Henry Morgan or Henry VIII’s buddy Cromwell and his distant kin Oliver. These guys are are real examples of what Harold Lamb called ‘the Earthshakers’ instead of an endless array of punks, bums, and degenerates.
Because of a prior altercation, old Tupac was down to one pack when he was killed.
The writing is low-grade, poorly punctuated, and simplistic…
Ever read ee Cummings?
“… old Tupac was down to one pack when he was killed.”
I was considering the handle “12-Pac Shakur” before I settled on “VanShuyten”.
People would have been calling you out wherever you went.
Most of these I recognized.
However, there are a few on this list that are intriguing.
I love history. ‘Pod
WE are rapidly becoming the “UNEMPLOYABLES”.
True enough , the culture has been coarsened.
The likes of Snoop Doggy Dogg have become mainstream entertainers with roles and movies and TV.
The Super Bowl halftime show was a celebration of rap, highlighted by the rapper named 50 Cent, hanging upside down on what appeared to be a makeshift jungle gym.
I think they’re putting Shakur on the syllabus between Milton and Wordsworth.
Yes, we could use a Tseng (or Cheng) Kuo-Fen ourselves.
Tupac, Son of Sixpac...
