There's nothing liberal about what is typically called a liberal in the U.S. today. They're totalitarian statists, pretty much the exact opposite of classical liberal thinkers like John Locke and Adam Smith. Today's liberals have much more in common with Joseph Stalin than any of the real liberals of the past. That's why I don't like to refer to them as liberals, I normally use the word leftist in my posts because to call them a liberal is to succumb to their co-opting of a positive word in order to mask their true selves.

A classical liberal believes in things like civil liberties, the rule of law, economic freedom, protection of private property rights, freedom of religion, expression, and of the press. All of these are actively suppressed by today's democrats whenever they don't align with their desired outcomes, suppression that's becoming more and more egregious as democrats consolidate their power. Even the worst of the worst would never have dared in the past to release their political rival president's tax returns, you respected the office if not the man and there are things you just don't do for petty vindictiveness. Likewise the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story by the press/twitter/facebook, etc. That's something that happens in banana republics, not supposedly the freest country on the planet.

Liberals voted for and paved the way for wokeness and the current stages of the Left. You can’t travel toward the path of insanity and then just decide “okay, that’s far enough” - you pushed the ball in a direction it should never have gone in. They are still voting for Leftists and continuing to push the ball in this direction. Unless they want to change course and genuinely stand up to the madness, it will not - nor can it - get any better.
