Temporarily lost mine two months after the wedding (8-12-78) while leveling a load of corn by hand. The corn dust is slippery, almost like graphite powder. Got a scrap piece of 1/2” wire mesh and had my brother slowly scoop corn in it while I held it. About 10 bushels later I found it. Wife said to leave it in the house unless we were going somewhere.

Two years later she stopped wearing hers to avoid scratching our 1st newborn. Two years after that, the farm economy the Carter left to Reagan had us struggling. Yep, we sold our rings, thinking if things improve we’ll get nicer ones.

We got so used to not wearing them we never did replace them. Wife said, “God knows we’re married, we know we’re married, people we know know we’re married, the goverment knows we’re married. Nobody else knows or cares.” She’s an awesome wife.

You're really lucky. So is she.

It was not a good idea to wear rings on the job I retired from. I had a coworker who was missing that finger because his wedding ring got caught and stripped all the flesh off the finger. Tried keeping my ring in my pocket while I was at work, but nearly lost it a few times, so I left it home after that.

Even now that I’m retired, I’m not in the habit of wearing my wedding ring. As you say, anyone who needs to know I’m married already does.
