Hamline University in Minnesota has reportedly declined to renew the contract of an art history professor because they showed two ancient art images depicting the Prophet Muhammad during an optional online class segment.

A student complained about the image’s inclusion in the course and led efforts to press administrators for a response. After that, the university’s associate vice president of inclusive excellence (AVPIE) declared the classroom exercise ‘undeniably inconsiderate, disrespectful and Islamophobic

That’s right. Unflattering depictions of Jesus are ok because, just because . But depictions of Muhammad are different, because we need to be reverential and respectful of Islam.

This isn't really true. It is an actual degree (not a "studies" atrocity) and it ties in neatly with history proper.

This story demonstrates why it's important. How people depict themselves ties into how they view the world and shows their motivations.

And for you utilitarians out there, there are jobs available at museums, historical societies, and of course teaching positions.
