Something like that happened to AAA insurance.
Their CC billing program got jammed up but the program
that drops customers for non(auto)-payment worked just fine
many customers got a letter that their home/auto insurance
was already canceled about two weeks earlier.
By the time they got it sorted out I already had new coverage.
