I had to look into that more about using the radio waves to determine rotation. Pretty amazing how they were using radar to do that in the 1960’s - only 20 years after the invention of radar!
If I understood the article I read correctly, in the late 1950’s they first used it to try to determine the temperature at the ground surface. They used different frequencies but they gave variable results. Those variable results were believed to be caused by the density of the atmosphere iirc. With one frequency measuring the temperature of the atmosphere and another the ground surface. (Or something).
The Venus probes and parachutes were designed using those parameters, and found their temperature estimates to be pretty good.
Another article (see below) discussed further study and refinement of how Venus acts (rotation, tilt, etc.) that was presented in 2021. This study more accurately predicts where various features are on Venus. Something about how the tilt varies (wobbles) more than we thought, and objects on the ground could vary more than 20 miles in position over 30 years than what we previously had thought.
