I like the writing and the deadpan narration.
Franklin and the idiocy of Dr. Funke are some of my favorite parts.
Teamocil is funny.
I might be like the only one in the world who thinks this, but a pre-teen boy, I found “Facts of Life” more interesting in its first season when there was a much larger ensemble of girls my age or slightly older (i.e., in the season when Molly Ringwald was in the cast). At some point (in the 2nd season I think), the decision was made to cut the characters down to Blair, Natalie, Tootie and the newcomer Jo. With all due respect to Natalie and Tootie, I considered them much less hot than the 5 or so girls who’d be cut from the cast.
Mork’s roommate?
Perhaps watching out the window for squirrels. 🤣
Blair, (Lisa Welchel) was in front of me with her family waiting for a table in 2002. She was traveling through Portland at the time. And I can ASSURE you that despite the fact that she’s had 2 kids, she had not then blown up. She still looked good.
Who is Mindy Cohn?
I was a kindergartener when it aired in the first season and had a crush on some of the girls, so I thought the first season was the best season. It was more realistic to have a lot of girls around with a single house mother than just having the 4 later on by themselves in a boarding school.
Another problem was having students of such wide ranging ages. Sue Ann (Julie Piekarski) and Blair were 16/17 in the first year, so should’ve been high school juniors that would’ve graduated the following year. Presuming that the Eastland was a high school, the youngest should’ve been 14-year old Cindy (Julie Anne Haddock) as a 9th grade freshman.
It was absurd to have the three youngest in a high school, Natalie (13), Molly (Ringwald) who was just 11, and Kim Fields’ Tootie, who just turned 10 before filming started. Why would a 4th or 5th grader be boarding with girls 6 years older, let alone attending the same classes ?
Well, guess you can’t expect reality from a sitcom. I remember being sad seeing the 4 other girls cut from the main cast for the second season, down to just guest star status and Jo being created to serve as an amalgamation of Nancy (blue-eyed brunette), Sue Anne (the foil for Blair), and Cindy (the tomboy).
Helen Hunt appeared on one episode as a stoner girl.
I remember that. They all got kicked out of Eastland by the headmaster.
