Yep. After the war, US Intelligence cooperated with and even provided funding for the Mafia in Italy to make sure the Commies did not take power. Italy had a lot of Commies so this was a real threat.

US intelligence also gave money to the Catholic Church because they too hated Commies and had a lot of influence in Italy and elsewhere.

It worked. The Commies were kept out.
