Daisy Ridley couldn't get a job after starring in the Star Wars sequels

Daisy Ridley is firmly cemented in the Star Wars universe thanks to her role as Rey, but the actress struggled to secure roles after appearing in the space opera movies.

The 30-year-old star appeared in the most recent Star Wars trilogy, starting with The Force Awakens in 2015.

After becoming one of the new faces of the multi-billion-dollar Disney-owned blockbuster franchise, one would think Ridley would have endless job offers, but she has revealed that wasn’t the case.

Following the release of the final film in the new trilogy, The Rise the Skywalker in December 2019, Ridley struggled jobs-wise in the following months before the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.

"Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through," she explained to Entertainment Weekly, describing the months after The Rise of the Skywalker’s release. "I was like, 'Aww! No one wants to employ me.'"

She added that 'there were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them'.

"I had that moment of 'Oh my god!' and then just thought 'everything in it’s right time,'" she said.

The movies sucked, and she could get a role as a corpse.

Yeah, because she wasn’t that good. While she was pretty and in good shape, her character (& her acting) were cardboad. The only thing memorable about her role was how utterly forgettable her character was.

On the plus side, she was in three BIG movies and probably made a lot of money from her role. Not gonna cry too many tears for Daisy.

I haven't watched any of the new Star Wars.

Was she any good?

Now, why would you want a nice girl like her to go into politics?

She’s not a talented actress in my opinion, and the movies are not good.
I enjoyed the first two Star Wars.

I looked up her net worth. It’s supposedly $9M. Boo freaking hoo.

Bad writing, yes, but her completely non-existent charisma on-screen is all on her.

She doesn't have "it" and never will.

She was given a horrible script and incompetent directing.

It really is not so much her fault.

She could do plays or television if movie roles aren’t panning out. She might also visit with Natalie Portman. Or even Margot Robbie!

The Disney sequels sucked (to be fair, so did the Lucas prequels). Ridley was an unknown before the sequels, she’s an unknown now - just a lot wealthier. It’s not a bad deal.

I’m sure there’ll be plenty of bashing of her here, but honestly, I think she did fine. I didn’t (and still don’t) like her character, but not so much for how she played it as the underlying crappy writing and associated wokeness.

I wouldn’t cast her in anything for a couple years either- too prominent a role, and the public had no prior awareness of her. If I were a casting producer or director I’d worry my audience would see “that Star Wars gal” instead of my intended character.

We now return to FReepers claiming they’ve not seen the movies, because that’s hip here, while over on DU I’m sure they’re claiming she wasn’t cast due to sexism or patriarchy or somesuch nonsense, because that’s hip there.

Query whether you experienced multifaceted disappointment with episodes VII, VIII, IX, and are low key happy to see someone, anyone involved with those films pay some kind of uncomfortable price for that.

The only good Star Wars movie was “Spaceballs”.

Still waiting for “Spaceballs II - The Search For More Money”
