Dino Danelli, drummer with blue-eyed soul pioneers the Rascals in all their incarnations, has died at age 78.
“It is with a broken heart that I must tell you of the passing of Dino Danelli,” guitarist Gene Cornish wrote Thursday on social media. “He was my brother and the greatest drummer I’ve ever seen. I am devastated at this moment. Rest in peace, Dino; I love you brother.”
Danelli co-founded the band as the Young Rascals in 1965 with Cornish, keyboardist Felix Cavaliere and percussionist Eddie Brigati, and everyone but Danelli contributed lead vocal parts. The New Jersey outfit debuted with “I Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore” and followed with another eight Top 20 singles, including the No. 1 hits “Good Lovin,’” “Groovin’” and “People Got to Be Free.”

I saw them on Ed Sullivan and was blown away by Dino’s twirling his drum stick’s - never saw that before that performance.
If you couldn’t place the name, they performed Good Lovin’, the ‘60s version of Mustang Sally (made popular again by the movie, “the Commitments”), Groovin’ and People Gotta Be Free.
Rascals got a boost from being the intro band for Soupy Sales. How weird is that?
“You Better Run’ was another hit for the Rascals and later covered by Pat Benatar.

Good band. One of the best songs ever was their “How Can I Be Sure?” Lead vocals by Eddie Brigati. No one could sing that song like he did.
Actually, Felix sang most of the leads, but I like Eddie Birgati’s vocie better.
“Actually, Felix sang most of the leads, but I like Eddie Birgati’s vocie better.”
Yeah, but not on that song. “How Can I Be Sure?” was Eddie Brigati all the way. Felix could not have done that song and have it work.
I still love the hairstyle on guys like this one.
Not sure what you mean... I called it a 60s song.
RIP, so many great tunes 🎶
