An important point, aside from the size or the brand.

KEEP IT A SECRET. Emphasize to him that he should NOT show it off to friends. If he does, he might as well post photos of it along with its location on Facebook.

Install it in a place where it can be hidden or camouflaged. Repairmen, social visitors, etc, should NOT be able to see it and identify it.

The same goes for safes holding other valuables. Once word gets out that you have a safe with guns or gold or cash in it, home invaders will be able to force the home owner to open it. SOP is to threaten to kill or torture a wife or children to force the owner to open the safe.

The safe is only as secure as its SECRECY.
In fact, secrecy is probably more important than the quality of the safe.

PS to safe secrecy: bring it into the house with the box names and logos concealed from curious eyes. Do NOT throw the box out with the trash or recycling. The whole point is to maintain secrecy. This even means from best friends. Loose lips etc.

That’s really key advice. People can probably due without advertising on their front door with a “Home protected by Smith and Wesson” sticker as well. I find an oversized dog dish next to the door is a better idea.

Thanks for the advice. I will now keep the door to that room shut when I have company.

This is wisdom. Read and heed it.
