I used to get confused by the terms trans man and trans woman.

I didn’t know if it was a man wanting to be a woman or a woman wanting to be a man.

Then I read how to figure it out in a hurry.

Simply substitute the word “fake” for trans. Thus, a trans-man is a (fake) man, thus a woman and a trans-woman is a (fake) woman thus a man.
