“I must be getting old. How can a presenter, no matter what side they are on, find any humor?”
I can see two possible reasons. One is it’s a coping mechanism, when some people see absolute horror, they cope by making jokes, it’s a way of relieving the horrible stress.
The other applies to hardened combat folks, they are so used to the horrors of warfare it’s just everyday business for them, and for these people finding humor in war is no different than a carpenter finding humor on the job.
One or both cases may apply to the presenter. Many sheltered people would simply not comprehend the above two probabilities.
I don’t think the presenter was really expressing any actual humor.
