Van Dyke endorsed Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic Party presidential primaries. In July 2016, while campaigning for Sanders, Van Dyke said of Donald Trump, "I haven't been this scared since the Cuban Missile Crisis. I think the human race is hanging in a delicate balance right now, and I'm just so afraid he will put us in a war. He scares me."
Van Dyke again endorsed and campaigned for Sanders in the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries.
I think he can be forgiven for his 2016 vote, being surrounded by the entertainment industry, but after seeing what Trump did for the country he still voted for Bernie in 2020. Nope.

He dropped out of high school to enlist. He received his high school diploma in 2004! At age 68!
The math doesn’t match being born in 1925.
Isn’t he a major progressive lefty?
YES!
He never paraded about it.
Yes, he is a Lefty. But as you said, I rarely saw him doing the public BS you see entertainers doing now, so...I am more inclined to let it pass with little judgement.
I prefer lib hack, but if you prefer “progressive lefty,” ok. That said, loved the show when I was a kid
I saw him play the lead role in “The Music Man” in Hollywood on New Year’s Eve, 1980. He did an excellent job even though he had a cold.
He made the family fortune with his show about 50s/early 60s family life.
His grandkids cowrote Olivia Wilde’s movie “Don’t Worry Darling”, which slams the way of life the family fortune was based on.
Not a very good movie.
My wife used to watch a doctor show he used as a vehicle for one of his sons, I found the story lines extremely left and his character pontification juvenile.
Happy Birthday. We should all live a long life.
What do you call a lesbian driving a van filled with “marital aides?”
Carl Reiner was a lefty but a comic genius. His son Meathead is just a doofus.
The show was “Diagnosis: Murder” and ran for 8 seasons. He could have made more from that show than every previous effort due to the horrible contracts they had back in those days.
Love his work. Great talent.
It’s funny, but young people aren’t interested in black & white tv shows. They have no interest in most retro shows.
“It’s funny, but young people aren’t interested in black & white tv shows.”
I have no use for colored tv shows
