That gif maybe was meant to look like he was climbing a wall. Maybe that was shot on flat ground but made to look vertical?
I lived in the metro area for 17 years in the 70’s & 80’s. There was a rash of late night robberies and shootings at convenience stores, waffle houses, etc. at that time and it was getting worse. Sam Massel, the last white mayor, along with John Inman, the last white police chief, set up “the stake out squad” to address the problem. The police would “stake out” likely spots and if perps showed up, they were given one warning to drop their weapons and surrender. If they did not comply, they were shot. The crime rate plummeted in the Atlanta area. As you might surmise, the perps we almost exclusively black males. It didn’t take long for the so-called black leaders to began to protest, not the fact that these crimes were committed by black males, but that so many were shot for not complying with the order to drop their weapons and surrender. True to form , the news media rushed in to fan the flames of outrage that these criminals were subject to such discriminatory actions. Of course the question that was never asked was, “ How can it be racist or discriminatory when all the perps are black?” The next election brought in Maynard Jackson, and thus begun Atlanta’s long slide into a swamp of corruption, crime, malfeasance, and incompetence.
....... I had no Idea. I have for a while felt that I'm too old to get high so that doesn't bother me at all. It's just that the non-conformist drug counter culture kept itself in check to a degree. This is way beyond just the old version of a headshop.
Really. We moved to rural NW Hall county. Haven’t been to Lenox in 10+ years.
No use for the metro except to pass through.
Truth.
Go take a look for yourself: Chevron 2302 EBENEZER RD SE CONYERS GA 30094
Whoa.....I guess it all depends on exactly what it is, they’re trying make ‘convenient’.
I could post some additional thoughts to your truth, but I’d be banned.
60 years ago there would have been riots in Atlanta if this would have happened.
Arrest made of the Obama son today:
Back in 1981, I hired on with an ITT Company that was in the First Atlanta building @ #1 Peachtree Street, on the corner of Marietta Street, then a year & a half later, I hired on with Sprint in the old First National Bank Building @ #2 Peachtree street. I was there for a year & a half, then, with a snap of my fingers I hired on at the MCI office on the floor below the Sprint terminal, and stayed there for about ten years before I was reassigned to a wire center that used to be across the street from where the new Braves Stadium, Truist Park, is on Circle75 Parkway.
So, I guess I worked downtown around 13 to 15 years way back when.
When I did work there, I was at ground zero across the street from Woodruff Park. I must say that getting off of a midnight shift, stepping out onto the sidewalk, and looking up on the First Atlanta Tower at the Resurgens Atlanta Phoenix 1865 symbol on the front of the building was bracing.
It's true, you can never go back.
Everyone is, of course entitled to their own opinion. After saving the .gif and looking at it a number of times, I am convinced it is authentic (reasons below) and it may, in fact, be a demonstration of the technique by a climbing trainer.
My reasons:
1. Not the first time doing the flip technique here.
Look between the climber’s legs as the .gif begins. The specific spot where he will place his supporting hand when executing the flip already has powdered resin rubbed into its surface.
2. Not the first time this climber has done the flip maneuver here.
After the climber misses his next handhold above, he immediately begins the preliminary adjustments to execute the flip maneuver: 1) he changes his grip from left to right hand, 2) he looks down to see where his now free left hand needs to be placed on the wall, 3) he shifts his legs to the right so he can place his left hand on the resin mark to brace himself, 4) now braced by his arms, he inverts himself, knowing to arch his back and bend his right leg back (heel nearly touching his buttocks) in order to ensure his right leg comes down on the wall well clear of his right arm, 5) once stabilized in his inverted position, the climber knows exactly where to reach with his left hand.
The climber is not thinking his way step by step through the problem. He already knew the technique and how to apply it to the wall he was climbing. This takes nothing away from the strength, athleticism, or physical courage the climber demonstrated. Although, I pity his joints -especially on later life, if he continues to hyperextend and stress them.
3. Video trickery. Anything is possible these days, especially with AI. I tend to follow Ocham’s Razor (rule): in short, the simpler explanation is preferable.

That said, the .gif is one continuous sequence of images with no overt evidence of covert splicing (mismatches in timing, jumps, texture shifts, color changes, etc). Also, the gravity effects cues are consistent with the climber being vertical throughout the climbing sequence.
So, while the sequence seems magical to us mere mortals, internal evidence points to it being authentic.
I've noticed that Costco is finally selling a small-can version of UDAP, the good stuff.
Hang tight, drop a line...We'll have a word for you on this end too.

That flipping-feat is both remarkable, but it’s also useless expect for vanity and bragging rights. All that for a Photo Op?
Atlanta is a giant shithole and getting bigger each day.
Impressive. Thank you.
Agree.
What we don’t know is how long it took to work the maneuver out, how many times he (or fellow climbers) fell, and what kind of safety equipment was/is used. One commenter mentioned faking the move horizontally and then flipping it vertically. While I feel the .gif was authentic, I could see it being worked out on the ground initially and then low down on very shallow slopes to proof the technique and get a feel for how it might be safely done.
What I didn’t see in the .gif and what I would not expect to see in a natural rock face free climbing video is a climber, with no protection at all, trying to figure out how to do this move on the fly.
BTW, going back to the news story leading the thread, there was an announcement yesterday evening that the suspected murderer of the 77 year woman had been identified and arrested.
