The San Patricio Battalion was made up of mostly deserters from the U.S. Army in Mexico, some of them officers. They were co-religionists of the Mexicans. The Mexican-American War was initiated when the Mexican Army attacked the U.S. Army in the State of Texas. The fact that it did not turn out well for the Mexicans is their bad luck. Deserting officers, later recaptured were hanged by the U.S. Army, enlisted receiving lesser punishments.
Lord Wellington dryly observed, “Scott will leave Vera Cruz when the Mexicans allow him to.” I guess they wanted him to march into Mexico City.
Thanks. You know I was just making fun of Soledad and Beto.
