I may not know all the ins and outs, but I know this….TOO LATE.
If the Chinese are using that app to spy they already have the access they need. Allowing folks to have any of the apps, Facebook-Twitter-Instagram-Snapchat-TikTok, provided they portal the Chinese use to get in everything.
Think of it like one of those spyware or key logger viruses that a hacker can put on your computer.
Give someone a Government phone, allow them to have any of these apps on it and the Chinese, or any other bad actor, can now get into text messages and emails. Get into that and they can learn everything.
Look at what those Palestinian guys did by having access to emails. Stuff we’ll never be allowed to know about.

Well, it doesn’t
That’s one way to put it.
By going through these apps and the phones they’re on, the Chinese don’t have to cultivate any spies. No one to bribe or blackmail. Basically have a clones phone somewhere in the world listening and storing everything that passes through the phone.

And to think, the FBI recently purchased software from the Israelis that will allow them to covertly get into a phone and conduct surveillance on anyone they want.

People with access to sensitive computer systems use TikTok also. There is a fair chance that they will access TikTok on those sensitive computer systems. That is a simple invitation to state actors who also use TikTok.

It has nothing to do with eliciting foolish behavior.
So Pres Trump was smart enough to ban it across the board, not just on government phones.
Even if it’s on the personal phone of a government employee, it wouldn’t matter unless there some type of encryption the software requires
Someone accesses their work email from a personal phone, the Chinese are in.
