People that do not know better think that raccoons are just cute and cuddly creatures. Nothing could be further from the truth. I always know when I lose chickens to raccoons because they tear the heads off and leave dead chickens scattered around without eating anything - they kill them just for sport. I shoot raccoons on sight around here.

Yikes. The video was pretty wild. It’s lucky the mom wasn’t bitten by the critter.

5 year old Rylee will probably need to get those rabies shots. With any luck, she will have forgotten the whole incident before 3rd Grade.

Mom should have slammed that raccoon into the porch post and broken its neck.

Something similar happened to my little sister when she was 4 or 5. She and mom had gone to do laundry in the laundry room which was in a detached garage of sorts (we lived near Orlando at the time, but in the boonies). Somehow a raccoon had found its way inside. Anyway, it scratched my sister and mom brought her back in the house, and called the next door neighbor who had an adult son who took care of his mom. He came over and got rid of the raccoon. Mom called the doctor, and my sister had to go see him for either a shot or medicine. I was at school so, of course, missed all the excitement. But yeah, raccoons can be a big nuisance.

We have them here in the Midwest, but I’ve never had one do anything but scamper away as soon as they see me. I can’t imagine one approaching me here, but I know they do in lots of places. Just lucky, I guess.

I saw that video out of interest as I live in a community here and found a huge raccoon in the corner on my deck one morning. ....never realized how big they are. But he was more scared than I when i opened the door, saw it, and quickly shut the door once back inside. In a few minutes it waddled off the deck.

I hate raccoons. They’re cute when they’re little, but they grow up to be such aggressive little terrorists. I have to stand outside while our country cats eat dinner or the raccoons will run them off, even if it’s well before dark. They don’t care if you yell, growl or throw rocks at them.

They suck.

One of my neighbors once strangled a raccoon to death with his bare hands when he walked outside and found it glomped onto one of his little dogs. It was rabid; he had to get shots, his dog survived. That guy was total metal.

I’ve warned people that racoons are dangerous, but seeing is believing.

Had a coon messing with my pond. Took me three days to trap him in a big live trap (he out witted me the first two times). Looked all cute until you got within 8 feet of the trap and he’d go full Cujo. I checked some videos and saw there was a 50-50 chance if you tried letting it go it would go after you so I settled the matter with a .22.

Seen a lot of coons, that one doesn’t look rabid at all. So did they catch it and test it or just give the shots to be safe?

Coons are nocturnal so if you see one walking around in the daytime, good chance it's sick with either rabies or distemper.

Back in the early 90's the coon population at a local metro park exploded and so did the distemper virus. Golfing one day we counted 6 coons that were wandering aimlessly around the course. My dad was the chief ranger at the park and he would shoot the ones wandering along the park roads and have the maintenance crew dispose of them.
