People that do not know better think that raccoons are just cute and cuddly creatures. Nothing could be further from the truth. I always know when I lose chickens to raccoons because they tear the heads off and leave dead chickens scattered around without eating anything - they kill them just for sport. I shoot raccoons on sight around here.

Rabid coons need to be put down.

Yikes. The video was pretty wild. It’s lucky the mom wasn’t bitten by the critter.

5 year old Rylee will probably need to get those rabies shots. With any luck, she will have forgotten the whole incident before 3rd Grade.

Mom should have slammed that raccoon into the porch post and broken its neck.

I'm not 'startled' - not in the least!
Not after my encounters with the racoon beasts at
Taughannock Falls State Park Campground in New York.

Those animals were vicious and insane.

But the falls are beautiful!

Something similar happened to my little sister when she was 4 or 5. She and mom had gone to do laundry in the laundry room which was in a detached garage of sorts (we lived near Orlando at the time, but in the boonies). Somehow a raccoon had found its way inside. Anyway, it scratched my sister and mom brought her back in the house, and called the next door neighbor who had an adult son who took care of his mom. He came over and got rid of the raccoon. Mom called the doctor, and my sister had to go see him for either a shot or medicine. I was at school so, of course, missed all the excitement. But yeah, raccoons can be a big nuisance.

We have them here in the Midwest, but I’ve never had one do anything but scamper away as soon as they see me. I can’t imagine one approaching me here, but I know they do in lots of places. Just lucky, I guess.

Fat chance. She’ll probably have nightmares.

That’s why I follow Gibbs Rule #9 - Always carry a knife.

I saw that video out of interest as I live in a community here and found a huge raccoon in the corner on my deck one morning. ....never realized how big they are. But he was more scared than I when i opened the door, saw it, and quickly shut the door once back inside. In a few minutes it waddled off the deck.

Trust me, she won’t forget, even when she’s in her mid 50’s. See my post 11.

Rule #9 is pretty useful. Mine is just a little pocketknife though. Still comes in handy.

I have a big pocket knife. Good enough for a coon.

Not a chance. Stuff like that you don’t forget and I would not be surprised for her to have nightmares about it. She will remember that her entire life.
