Little known story was that Clint Howard was eaten by the bear at the end of the 1st season. The parents were told by the studio that they had a orphan boy that could replace for the remaining seasons if they agreed to take the boy in. They agreed as the studio was paying good money and the father could appear on the show. They never did tell Ron Howard as he was off making the Andy Griffith show. If he said anything they would explain the change as a growth spurt. Beside Ron never liked Clint much.... : )
