I learned to look both-ways when crossing a green light. In other words situational awareness I believe has been high since my first and only accident when I was a kid. (knock on wood.)
In three different instances I've avoided cars running solid red lights. As with your brother I avoid cars maybe every other short trip to the store. long trips I can't count.

Motor vehicle Fatalities has gone up +17% in the last two years even with the lock downs. Highest rise by far since cars have been invented. That sounds backward. I wonder if some of that was intentional suicide?

Hands free phone equipment is good. My own guys use the stuff very well. The shortcoming is still that most folks don’t have it. Might be a cost factor or might just be a genetic, built in, urge to hold it in their mitts. It’s boringly entertaining to watch someone, in a public place, fidget, squirm, try to hide it, and otherwise avoid answering a phone ringing in their pocket. Most often they know who’s calling and don’t want to have the conversation in public.
But the same factors are in place. They barely know how to make a call, are itching to talk, but don’t know enough about how the bleeping fone works to shut off the ringer.

Another phenomenon that’s related is how old guys who never learned how to type, have fingers too fat for keyboard speed, are still able to get on a PC and look up PORN? Couldn’t run a computerized machine to save their hides, but by Yiminy, they can dial up porn. amazing.
