Anybody know if Baker scrubbed/deleted the files, or did he just block their release?

He possibly tried to delete them but that’s what backups are for. Twitter is also the custodian of customers’ tweets and may not want to be in the position of having to say “Oops. Somehow all of [insert name of important person here]’s tweets got deleted and we don’t have a backup to recover them.” If Musk has the business acumen we think he has, he may have kept Baker on to avoid a big separation settlement knowing he’d betray Musk at some point, because the DS players answer only to the DS. Other posters here have noted this possibility.

They are already dealing with the backups. What was “vetted” was from backups of backups most likely. I’d bet there’s even fake backups right now just waiting to be the bait for some nefarious employee. Plus there’s no deleting these emails. It’s not physically possible and I’m sure that there is no one person that knows where all the backups are. Dollars to donuts the real deal is stored on a Starlink server - maybe even in space.
