I hear you on the jonesing, and the skill decay with long layoffs. I’m headed to the Dominican Republic in January and then Cayman in February. Golf in the Islands is horribly expensive but I CAN’T GET INTO THE STATES!!!
I’ve only ever had 2 wedges - sand and pitching. I got as low as a 6 handicap with just those and decided I could make do with only 2. I need my 3 and 4 irons (now hybrids) and that pesky rule about only 14 clubs gets in the way of a third wedge. We have some indoor computer golf around here where you hit into a screen to keep the swing in muscle memory. You just have to make sure you don’t develop any weird swing hitches and spend all winter reinforcing them. Haha! I know people that’s happened to. They spent the whole next summer undoing something they reinforced week after week the previous winter. Golf is hard and it’ll break your heart if you take it too seriously.
Just open up that sand wedge a bit and, boom, 58° Lob Wedge. When we were kids we used to place the ball on a fluffy lie, pop it straight up and catch it in our pockets.
I’ve got a cart cover and a heater and there are more than a few courses that will stay open all year round. most close with the first hard snow fall.
“weird swing hitches” - I get it.
so I’ll take it a dome every now and again.
there are a couple of ourdoor practice facilities that are open year round... so I can look at ball flight.
I am envious of you Golf trips.
Hit ‘em hard, they’ll come down somewhere
Maybe if you come back via Mexico, you can just walk across the border.
They'll treat you like a queen, and everything is free.
