Supposedly there are some kind of oil tanks or radiators that keep it cool. Hole one and the oil leaks out, then the transformer explodes. There is a photo with the story.
But how long that takes I have no idea.

By the way, if it was true it would actually be kind of funny. Damaging a transformer, to cut the lights out on transformers.

Large transformers are oil cooled so you have something there. Remember when PCBs were in that oil and were polluting the landscape? Real pollution, not CO2 nonsense.

My guess is that the transformers will shut down if they overheat.

They used to be filled with toxic PCBs (Poly-Chlorinated Biphenols), but maybe they’ve changed that liquid cooler now.
