Remember that Randy Weaver was given an incorrect court date which lead to the siege. A judge ruled that Randy Weaver was still in contempt because he should have confirmed the court date instead of just relying on the summons.

Where I live summons come by registered or certified mail. I guess you could refuse delivery and not see it that way but you'd still be on the hook for the summons. They would have a record of attempted delivery.

Right. And if she saw the summons, did she even understand what it meant? There are no easy answers in stories such as these. I think one thing is clear, however. She first needed a visit from a social worker who specializes in working with the elderly.
