Melania Trump has personally overseen the planning for the evening, which has been decorated in a crème and gold color scheme and draws from American and French influences. Twelve hundred branches of cherry blossom, 2,500 stems of white sweet peas and nearly 1,000 stems of white lilac adorn the White House, while the Washington National Opera is providing musical entertainment for the evening. ransomnote: Compare and contrast linked article detailing President Trump's first state dinner, honoring President Macron, with the one I'll post below the line describing Biden's first state dinner with President Macron.

My notes on New York Times article: "Inside Biden’s State Dinner: Hot Dog Talk and a Party That Lasted Until 1 A.M." by Katie Rogers on 12/02/2022

The Formal State Dining room in the White House can hold a maximum of 140 guests, and Biden's dinner was supposedly 300 persons. Wonder how many really were persent. Out of that number the most notable seem to be Congress critters and entertainment celebrities.

Here's my theory about the Biden event which I posted to another thread.

In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled My notes on New York Times article: "Inside Biden’s State Dinner: Hot Dog Talk and a Party That Lasted Until 1 A.M." by Katie Rogers on 12/02/2022, ransomnote wrote:
Look at the title of the article again:

Okay I'll just say it. I think they served Macron hot dogs. Don’t look at me that way! It’s all there. It’s in the title of the Article! Hot Dogs!

Biden was supposed to act like it was normal to serve the French President hot dogs, so Pelosi’s daughter was told to ask him what’s the most American foods and he dutifully listed hot dogs, ice cream and spaghetti.

That’s why Pelosi piped up, “Oh yes, I have them everyday...”

That’s why Macron was bewildered. That's why the head table was discussing hot dogs during a state visit.

That’s why the smarmy Ambassador flitted around, watching Macron carefully to ensure that he enjoyed his meal, especially the “selection of American cheeses and triple-cooked butter potatoes”.

See, I thought it was odd Gifford worried that Macron would enjoy the cheeses and potatoes - no mention of the main meal. It’s like obsessing over the croutons and salad dressing and failing to mention the filet mignon or something that is difficult to prepare.

And triple-cooked butter potatoes? Now, are those instant mashed potatoes? (update: the Internetz says they are 'fancy baked potatos.)

It could be if Brandon’s going to claim that he wanted to show Macron the most popular American foods like hotdogs, ice cream etc. If Biden's state dinner menu is ever revealed, he can pander to middle America. “What’s good enough for our people is good enough for foreign heads of state.”

(sidenote: It may also help the Biden Administration question the tens of thousands of dollars spent on hot dog parties at the White House.)

Was the food too late because vendors had to deliver them (which is not done at state dinners for security reasons) or because lackeys had to steam them and they'd never prepared food on that scale before? :)

I mean - my hotdog theory makes more sense than the NYT Biden article as it stands!

It explains why Biden was said to be discussing sausages with Macron later.

Why else put ‘hot dogs’ in the article title?

Why else find it newsworthy, after 2 years of public shame, to describe Biden as a man of uncomplicated tastes?

The writer of the article seemed depressed and if so, maybe it was because she couldn’t tell the public that the first State Dinner of the Biden administration, served in a tent at night in freezing temperatures, was poorly organized, served hot dogs and 'fancy baked potatos' etc. etc.!!!!

The article says the venue served American brut rosé and chardonnay, and if hotdogs were served, likely beer, iced tea, Coke and lemonade. But they ran out of glassware so....
